10 Ways To Get Glowing Skin Without Makeup

10 Ways To Get Glowing Skin Without Makeup

1. Keep it clean for a good skincare routine

When we're in a rush, we often skip some steps in our skincare regime. There will be days where skin care is the least of your worries, but as much as you can manage, try to take that time for yourself.

Step one of self-care is making the effort to remember that you deserve at least some fraction of the time you dedicate to others. In fact, taking a little "me time" generally means you're able to show up for the ones you love in a more authentic way.

When you wake up in the morning, splashing some water on your face can feel like a refreshing ritual. It's a moment to remove that sleep from your eyes, and mentally prepare for the day.

If you have dry skin, you may not even need to incorporate a cleanser, but if you have oily skin, then a gentle face wash is a good way to revive your skin and clear out the dust and oils that have accumulated in your pores overnight.

Later, when you settle in for the evening, you do want to make sure you've removed makeup and all the dirt and detritus from the day. In the words of that best-selling book from a few years back, Girl, wash your face.

2. Slough off those dead skin cells

Sometimes your home needs a little extra cleaning, like when those nooks and crannies have gone unnoticed for too long. So it is with the skin. Those nooks and crannies are the pores, and they too require some additional attention.

Our skin goes through a natural skin renewal cycle in which cells make their way to the skin's surface, die, and slough off. This clears the path for newer fresher cells, and the cycle continues. However, the pace of this process slows down as we age, so it's a good idea to exfoliate and scrub.

There are two types of exfoliation: physical and chemical. Physical exfoliation, as the name suggests, involves physically removing those dead cells from the surface.

Chemical exfoliation dissolves the bonds between cells, so they can be more easily removed. Glycolic acid and salicylic acid are commonly used to chemically exfoliate. However, those aren't the only options for dissolving dead skin cells.

Sometimes you'll come across a product that combines the best of both worlds. JUARA Radiance Enzyme Scrub contains natural apple enzymes that dissolve dead cells as well as bamboo and jojoba beads that slough off surface debris.

This plant-based combination is a perfect fit for every skin type, even those with sensitive skin.

The gentle formula fights clogged pores with clove seed oil, minimizes dark spots with the help of vitamin C, and gives you that glowing complexion you seek.

It sounds almost too good to be true, but you'll see for yourself when you give it a try.

3. Take it to the next level with a toner

As we mentioned earlier, some skincare steps seem to slip our minds. For some reason, toner tends to be one of them - and what a shame it is since toner can truly make a difference for the complexion.

Toner can help bring balance to oily skin, but also replenish and revitalize dry and dull types.

Tamarind Tea Hydrating Facial Toner by JUARA draws upon the healing properties of tamarind seed extract and hydrating hyaluronic acid to promote moisture retention and support skin barrier function.

The triple tea blend, rich in antioxidants, gives your skin a glowing appearance and combats oxidative stress and skin damage caused by various environmental factors.

The formula, which is oil and alcohol-free not only boosts hydration, but balances pH levels. It soothes your skin, reduces redness, and leaves you with an enviable, dewy complexion.

Maybe we'll all think twice before omitting this step in the future.

4. Incorporate antioxidants to even out skin tone

If you want to see more dewy skin and fewer dry spots and dark circles, there's definitely something you can do. Using products that contain antioxidants can give your skin the armor it needs to defend itself against those damaging free radicals.

Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun are the main cause of free radicals that affect the skin. These unstable molecules steal from healthy cells and cause oxidative stress. This process activates enzymes that damage cells, break down collagen, and cause premature aging.

You can help fight back against those rascally free radicals by eating antioxidant-rich foods, and incorporating antioxidants in your skin care.

Antioxidants work by neutralizing free radicals in one of two ways. They provide the extra electron needed or break down the free radical molecule so that it's effectively rendered harmless. Antioxidants stop free radical formation by breaking the chain reaction of "stealing" electrons.

The two JUARA products we mentioned above both contain potent antioxidants that protect and heal the skin. And - spoiler alert - there's still one more we'll spotlight below!

5. Make sure to moisturize morning and night

While there are many ways to make sure your skin stays moisturized, using moisturizer is one of the more tried and true beauty tips.

When our skin is sufficiently hydrated, it functions much more efficiently. That means it protects us better and looks healthier while doing that work.

If you want dewy skin, you need to supply it with some moisturizing ingredients. Humectants like aloe vera will help with hydration, while emollients like olive oil and almond oil will soften skin and seal in moisture.

During the day, moisturizer isn't the only thing your skin requires. If you want to work toward perfect skin without applying makeup, you'll need some extra protection. Dermatologists recommend applying sunscreen if you plan to spend any time outdoors.

Not everyone will remember to add that SPF in a separate step, so it's great when you find makeup or day cream that's anti-aging and also has some sun protection. If you already have your preferred moisturizer or makeup and neither have SPF, be sure to apply sunscreen over your entire body before you hit the beach.

It's important to wear sunscreen if you want to maintain that natural radiance and minimize the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.

When the sun sets and it's time for bed, be sure to wash off all the dirt and makeup and apply a little more moisturizer so your skin can work on recuperating overnight.

6. Apply facial oil for a fabulous glow

While we're still on the subject of skin care, JUARA has one more wonderful way to get glowing skin. A few drops of our Radiance Vitality Oil will instantly de-puff some of those problem areas with the natural anti-inflammatory effects of passion fruit and turmeric oil.

This formula filled with natural oils and extracts will plump the skin and reduce the prominence of fine lines and wrinkles on the face.

Macadamia Nut Oil boosts collagen production and - like candlenut oil - contributes high concentrations of omega fatty acids, which nourish and moisturize the skin.

Vitamin C brings brightening power that minimizes the appearance of age spots and balances skin tone. Coconut oil and rice bran oil contain vitamin E, which helps skin maintain a more youthful elasticity.

Even though the texture of this luxurious elixir is light and non-greasy, it delivers a healthy dose of moisture and rejuvenation. Those who've tried it report seeing smoother, brighter, and more radiant skin.

You can even use a little bit of this oil over makeup to accentuate already glowing skin. A makeup artist might suggest dabbing a bit on the high points of cheekbones to give a luminous quality to your complexion. However, with this oil, you may find you're more likely to go out with a makeup-free face!

Some folks fear using facial oil if they suffer from breakouts or the occasional blemish. However, some oils - such as the jojoba oil present in this formula - help balance an overproduction of sebum. It's also naturally anti-bacterial, which is great for acne-prone skin.

If you're trying to target acne, you can always reach for some benzoyl peroxide for spot treatments, or dab on some tea-tree oil, but don't shy away from facial oil or body oil for that matter.

7. Eat healthy foods for healthy skin

A healthy intake of food is the foundation for overall wellness. Along with getting good sleep and taking time to exercise, it's important to consume a good amount of whole grains, greens, fruits, and lean protein.

We mentioned antioxidants above, and they're not just for the creams you layer under makeup. There are foods rich in antioxidants such as broccoli, spinach, asparagus, and avocados that all support skin health.

There's also some research out there to suggest that consuming beta-carotene, in particular, contributes to healthy skin. Beta-carotene is a compound that gives that yellow, orange, and red color to vegetables. The best food sources for beta-carotene are sweet potatoes, apricots, and carrots.

Certain foods can affect individuals differently, so avoid the foods you know cause health issues or skin reactions.

If you're trying to wear a little less makeup and let your natural radiance shine through, then you'd do well to eat.

8. Drink water for the win

Sure, we could have included water as part of a healthy diet, but just to be sure to shine a light on it, we're enumerating it on its own.

There's a reason we say (in various languages) "water is life." If you drink plenty of water you're likely to see a positive impact on your overall health.

Our organs need that H2O to function properly, and we know that skin is the largest organ of the human body. So if you want to see your skin glow without having to learn the latest makeup tricks, be sure to grab that glass of water.

There's no hard and fast rule for exactly how much water one should consume, but somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-8 glasses a day seems to be the general consensus.

If you struggle to take in that much, you can always squeeze in some lemon to liven things up or eat foods with high water content like lettuce, cantaloupe, and watermelon. Now doesn't that sound refreshing?

9. Get some exercise for a healthy glow

A super-smart shortcut to getting that lit from within glow is to make your body move. Physical activity can give many people a natural flush, which is like painting the cheeks with a natural blush - no makeup needed.

How does that work? Exercising causes your blood vessels to expand and contract in order to pump blood toward your muscles.

When you do exercises like jogging, jumping rope, or taking a brisk walk, you increase blood circulation. Increasing circulation brings subtle color to the surface of your skin and oxygen to your cells.

Exercise is helpful for good posture skin and the whole body

Exercise is essential for fitness in general and also for keeping skin healthy. If you're hoping to skip makeup, you can always skip some rope!

10. Rest up for radiant skin

When you get a good night's rest, you are not only likely to feel refreshed, but look more rejuvenated as well.

Most experts seem to recommend sleeping for 7-9 hours a night. If you don’t get enough sleep your body releases the stress hormone, cortisol. While it's a useful hormone for fight-or-flight situations, it's not ideal all the time.

Cortisol can cause inflammation, which can exacerbate skin conditions like psoriasis.

Even though it may seem like a dated phrase, people take about getting their beauty sleep for a reason. As you sleep, your body delivers nutrients and flushes out excess fluid. Your cells go into hyperdrive after midnight, repairing and restoring skin.

In addition, the body releases the human growth hormone essential for the skin's production of new collagen. As you know, collagen is critical for firm and supple skin.

If you're sacrificing sleep to stream your favorite show, you're likely to see more puffiness around the eyes in the morning. Try turning off the light (and the TV) a little earlier than usual and see how it affects your skin.

There's another thing you can do to get that glow without an ounce of makeup. This video below shows how face yoga can help you stimulate blood flow and give your skin a beauty boost.

You should massage your face gently, but still get some blood moving. Be sure your strokes are in an upward motion to encourage a lifted effect.

Namaste.
